1. Non-Verbal Communication :

We do not speak any thing in Non-Verbal Communication. We take the help of SMS, E-mail, Letter, Fax, Body Language etc, to convey our thoughts to others.

In Non-Verbal Communication, we are able to communicate with others, but we are unable to express our thoughts clearly to others.

2. Verbal Communication :

In Verbal Communication, two or more than two persons can speak with the help of words and sentences and communicate with each other. And we use Verbal Communication in our house with our family members, in society with friends, relatives and at work place with colleagues, customers and others. On the basis of these communications, we take decisions and take action on those decisions.

Communication ➡ Decision ➡ Action

To the extent we communicate effectively up to that extent we take better decisions and get success by implementing those decisions.

# While talking with any one :-

1. What we say
2. How we say
3. Why we say
4. When we say
5. Where we say

These 5 say are most important,  because irrelevant talk, communicated wrongly, at wrong time, and without reason lead to very unhappy situation and at times does permanent personal and professional losses.

Hence, it is of utmost importance to express our thoughts clearly and effectively to the right audience, at the right time with proper reason.

Verbal Communication can be done in two ways.

1. One to one Communication
2. One to Many Communication

One to one Communication :

Minimum two persons are required for one to one Communication where they exchange their thoughts with each other. Both the persons here speak  and listen to each other.

We can call one to one Communication as “Of the stage Communication” also. If we can communicate effectively with one to one, then we can explain our thoughts to one or two persons effectively.

One To Many Communication :

When you communicate to the audience from stage or address a group of people at any place, it is called One to Many Communication. It is also termed as “Public Speaking”.

When you are addressing from stage, you are called as a ‘Speaker’,  where as, people sitting in the hall and listening to you, are called as audience.

And the thoughts expressed by the Speaker is called ‘Speech’. The speaker who deliver his speech very effectively and enthustically can impress, excite and motivate the audience and share his knowledge and inspires the audience to do what they believe they can’t do.

In the next chapter we shall see the importance of Effective Public Speaking.
